A few of the main title design looks I created for Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inisherin. The film is tonally difficult to pinpoint and is at times reminiscent of a dark fairytale or fable. I found inspiration in poster design for Yorgos Lanthimos films, vintage fairy tale book covers and illustrations, and Celtic symbols. I wanted the color palette to be muted and moody with pops of red to reflect the mild mannered protagonist’s descent into madness in the last third of the film. I also created some frames utilizing the natural color palette of rural Ireland seen in the film. I also had fun incorporating the shears and fiddle imagery into the wordmark.
